Wal-Tek’s Lean journey started with 3S (sort, set in order, shine), expanded to 5S (adding sustain and standardization), and now operates under 6S (incorporating safety). In our experience, the hardest part isn’t setting the plan in motion; it’s sustaining improvements over time.
That’s why our weekly stand-up meetings include Lean discussions. Team members identify opportunities to eliminate the seven wastes (Muda) and improve workflows across our precision machine shop and fabrication divisions. Champions in each department actively walk the floor looking for opportunities to streamline processes and reinforce standards.

Using a QR-code submission system, ideas are reviewed and implemented. Each year, we recognize the most impactful improvements with meaningful awards during our company-wide event.
This program reinforces servant leadership and gives every team member a voice. It transforms Lean from a management directive into a shared responsibility that improves efficiency and morale across our teams.
Our Connected Shop Floor Serves as a Lean Multiplier
Wal-Tek Lean extends into our digital ecosystem. We’ve invested in Wal-Tek GPT, an ITAR-safe large language model that allows employees to quickly access HR guidance, process documentation, and internal best practices without leaving their workstation.
Combined with tools like Paperless Parts, Fulcrum, 1factory, and OpenAPI, our shop floor teams have instant access to:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and production playbooks
